Mantrailing
I is the first in a series of four levels of professional training
courses conducted by Jack Shuler Mantrailing Training Academy.
This
basic, 24-hour, three-day course is for handlers and dogs that
have little or no experience in mantrailing.
Twenty
hours of fieldwork provides handlers with one-on-one training with
professional instructors. Learn
correct starting procedures, proven training techniques, lead
handling, as well as how to read your dogÂs signals.
Learn how to avoid common new-handler mistakes.
Four hours of classroom instruction includes, but is not
limited to: Scent theory; scent articles; training techniques;
training records; canine communication; physical conditioning;
equipment and gear, and more.
Mantrailing
I provides beginning handlers and dogs with a solid foundation in
mantrailing training.
Prerequisite:
None
Target
participant: Anyone interested in the mantrailing K-9 for law
enforcement, Search and Rescue or sport mantrailing.
Requirements:
A dog is not required for participation. Attendees are expected to
be in capable physical condition to perform required field
training assignments.

Mantrailing
II is the second in the series of four levels of
professional training courses conducted by Jack Shuler Mantrailing
Training Academy.
This
intermediate level, 24-hour, three-day course is directed
towards the K-9 handler that has had some formal training and
field experience. Mantrailing II offers four hours of classroom
instruction which includes advanced scent theory; pool scent;
scent discrimination; developing an ID; scent article collection
and preservation; case records; and more. Field training exercises
are tailored to the skill of the individual dog/handler teams
participating. Each team will gain proficiency at working older trails,
negative trails, trails with multiple runners, pool scent
conditions, scent discrimination problems, trail contamination,
scent article collection and many other challenges.
Prerequisite:
Mantrailing I. Instructors
may waive prerequisite when provided with verification of
successful completion of an equivalent training seminar and
adequate field experience.
Target
participant: Those K-9 handlers whose primary interest is to work
at the professional level in law enforcement, Search and Rescue or
those desiring to excel in sport mantrailing.
Requirements:
A dog is not required for participation. Attendees will be
expected to be in strong physical condition to undertake the field
training that will be held regardless of climatic conditions.
Mantrailing III

Mantrailing
III is the third in a series of four levels of training
seminars conducted by Jack Shuler Mantrailing Training Academy.
This
demanding, professional level 24 hour, three-day course is
designed for the experienced K-9 handler that has had ample formal
training and substantial field experience.
Classroom
instruction includes: advanced handling and training techniques;
vehicle trails; evidence collection and handling; K-9 first aid;
land navigation; negative trails; case law; back-up team selection
and function; crowd and media control; basic negotiation skills;
sophisticated training aids such as Simunition®, video cameras
and scenarios. Field
training is conducted under realistic conditions with an emphasis
on problem solving. Participants are required to work both
urban and rural training scenarios from start to finish. Handlers
will be responsible for managing pre-trail interviews, scent
article collection; land navigation; crowd and media control;
basic tactical movement and subject apprehension. Numerous field exercises and training problems will challenge
the professional handler to increase his/her preparedness to
succeed at and survive actual call-outs.
Prerequisite:
Mantrailing I & II, and approval of Instructors. Class
size will be restricted, and participation in this course will be
limited to the most serious and well-prepared dog/handler teams.
Target
participant: The serious, professional, mantrailing K-9 handler
whose primary interest is in the mantrailing K-9 as used for law
enforcement. If space is available, consideration will be given to
Search and Rescue personnel with sufficient, adequate
documentation of prior training and field experience.
Requirements: A dog is
required for participation. Attendees will be expected to be in
superb physical condition to undertake the field training, which
will be held regardless of climatic conditions.
The Extreme Bloodhound Training Camp

The Extreme Bloodhound Training Camp is the
fourth in a series of four levels of training courses conducted by
Jack Shuler Mantrailing Training Academy. This extremely
demanding, professional level 40 hour, four day class is for the
elite bloodhound and handler. Only the most experienced and
dedicated handlers will be accepted for this class. Class
size will be limited for the maximum amount of experience and
instruction under realistic conditions.
Prerequisite: Mantrailing I, II, & III, and
approval of Instructors. Only serious
resumes will be considered, as this camp is not your
typical training seminar.
Target participant: The experienced, dedicated
professional who wants to further his training and experience
while being challenged to the maximum. Priority will be
given to law enforcement officers. If space is available,
consideration will be given to search and rescue personnel with
adequate documentation of prior formal training and field
experience.
Requirements: A bloodhound is required for
participation. Attendees will be expected to be in
exceptional physical condition and must possess unlimited drive
and determination. This camp is not for the weak, whiney
wannabe.
Police K-9
Unit Tactical Operations

This highly informative 8-hour course details the
formation and operation of a tactical team that is designed to offer maximum protection
for the police K-9 Unit during criminal mantrailing operations.
Not limited to classroom lecture, a large
percentage of time will be spent in the field demonstrating team positions, practical team
movement formations and immediate action drills. Training drills will be explained and
practiced that will maintain a mission-ready degree of preparedness that will allow the
Tactical K-9 Unit to be mobilized instantly. A superbly trained K-9 Tactical team is
necessary to bring dangerous subjects into custody with the greatest efficiency possible,
but without endangering the safety of the entire team nor the citizens they are sworn to
protect.
Prerequisite: None
Target participant: Law enforcement officers that
are K-9 handlers responsible for criminal mantrailing operations, as well as those
officers serving as backup and support for the K-9.
Requirements: Dogs are not required for
participation and will not be utilized in the training. Attendees will be expected to be
in reasonably fit physical condition to undertake the field training that will be held
regardless of climatic conditions.
